Try the brand alone (e.g. Samsung) or the exact model number (e.g. SM-S921B). If your device is newer than 2021 and released outside mainland China, chances are very high that it supports eSIM.
Rules of thumb
Every iPhone from XS / XR (2018) onward, all iPads with cellular from 2018+, and every Apple Watch Cellular — except units bought in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao.
Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Note 20 series, all foldables (Z Fold / Z Flip), the A54 / A55 / A56 / A57, and Galaxy Watch LTE from 3 onward.
Google Pixel 5 and newer, all Pixel Watch LTE, all iPads cellular, cellular Galaxy Tab S7+ and later, and modern 5G mobile hotspots (Nighthawk M5+, Solis 5G, GlocalMe).
Any phone from before 2018 (with rare exceptions), most Redmi / POCO, Samsung A/M/F series below A54, Wi-Fi-only tablets, non-cellular smartwatches, and every feature phone.
Compiled from public specs and carrier lists (Apple, Vodafone UK, Klook, Cybernews, esim-now, mysimguide — August 2026).
Regional variants sometimes differ; when in doubt, dial *#06# — if you see an EID line,
your device has eSIM hardware.
eSIM questions, answered
How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?
Search your brand and model above, or the model code printed in your phone’s settings. You can also dial *#06#: if an EID line appears, the device has eSIM hardware.
What is an EID?
The EID (eUICC identifier) is a 32-digit number that identifies the eSIM chip inside your device. Only devices with eSIM hardware have one.
Why can the same model differ by region?
Manufacturers ship regional versions. Most iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao use two physical SIMs instead of eSIM, while US iPhone 14 and later are eSIM-only. Check the exact model code.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
Yes. A carrier-locked phone may refuse eSIM profiles from other providers even if it has eSIM hardware. Ask your carrier to unlock it before installing a new eSIM.
How do I install an Openline eSIM?
If your device is compatible and unlocked, buy a plan at openline.com and scan the QR code under Settings › Cellular (iPhone) or Settings › Connections › SIM manager (most Android phones).
